Stir Up A Last Minute Gift With Chocolate Spoons

Stir Up A Last Minute Gift With Chocolate Spoons

Making These Simple Chocolate Spoons Can Stir Up a Last Minute Gift and Give Your Coffee a Whirl.

Every year I promise myself to shop early and not let ANY gift wait until the last minute.  Oh, boy.  Needless to say that despite my good intentions, every year there is always one (or maybe two) gifts that allude me - including stocking stuffers!  Not this year!  This year’s mission - I’m making fun chocolate stirring spoons as stocking stuffers and gifts. These spoons can magically change an ordinary cup of coffee into a gourmet mocha coffee treat.  What’s more, by adding a flavor or candy (such as a salted caramel, a thin mint or peanut butter cup) your spoons will stir up the morning coffee routine and create a little holiday happiness. You can even add them to a Hot Chocolate Bar, New Year’s Eve Coffee Station or share them at the office.

Here is what you need:

  • Disposable Spoons

  • Chocolate for Chocolate Almond Bark (sold at Aldi, Walmart, etc…)

  • Candies such as Andes Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Cups, Salted Caramels

  • Sprinkles (optional)

  • Pretzel Rod Treat Bags (long and slender)

Directions:

  1. Melt the Chocolate over a double boiler (a heat safe bowl over a pan with an inch of water in it on low heat) or in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave.  For either method, melt the chocolate slowly, stop and stir.  In the microwave, I recommend melting a minute, stirring, melting 30 seconds, stirring, etc… You do not want to burn the chocolate.  Don’t forget… water is the enemy of chocolate so make sure your bowls and spoons are dry before using.

  2. Remove the chocolate from the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes.  You want the chocolate warm and not hot.  Stir until you see the chocolate start to thicken slightly.  This will help the chocolate adhere to the spoon.

  3. Dip the spoon in the chocolate and place on a piece of parchment to allow the spoon to cool. As the chocolate starts to appear “fudgy” and less wet add a flavored candy or sprinkles.  If you add your candy to the spoon to soon the candy may completely melt.  Just take your time and experiment.  If the chocolate gets cool to fast you can start over by simply dipping it in the warm chocolate again.

  4. Allow your spoons to completely cool before bagging them.  Tie the bag with a twist tie or ribbon.
